Research Center for Science and Technology in Medicine (RCSTM) -the first research center in applied science and technology in medicine- was established in 1994 in Tehran. RCSTIM is located in Imam Khomeini hospital - the largest clinical complex in Iran- affiliated with Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS). The main purpose for establishment of RCSTIM is to provide the fundamental infrastructure for systematic collaborations between engineering, technology, research, medicine, and clinics. It contributes towards industrial independence in development of new medical devices and cutting edge technologies associated with domestic needs and demands. Fast expanding research in special clinical and technological fields necessitated establishment of two separate research centers, Research Center for Molecular and Cellular Imaging (RCMCI) and Research Center for Biomedical Technologies and Robotics (RCBTR) beside RCSTM to address the clinical needs and put the country among fast developing countries in the field of modern applied medical technologies.

Amongst the mission and action plans of this facility the following items can be listed.

1-  Moving forward the science boundaries

2-   Searching for advanced medical technologies across the world

3-  Training talented human resources in the field of medical technologies

4-   Improving domestic healthcare

5-  Searching for, identifying, and addressing the needs and demands of development and application of technology in healthcare

6-  Establishing the collaboration with scientists and experts in national and international scientific and research centers
